‘Socialization is defined as the acquisition of work skills and adoption of role behaviors and adjustment to the norms and values of the workgroup’.
PROCESS OF SOCIALIZATION
The Socialization process is made up of three stages, they are as follows,
- Pre-arrival Stage
- Encounter Stage
- metamorphosis Stage
All the new employees arrive the organization with a set of values, attitudes, expectations and learning i.e, all the learning of the new employees before joining the organization.
Upon joining the organization, new members enter the encounter stage, role-playing starts here, the member starts comparing the expectations with the organization which he had formed during the arrival phase with the reality. If different, stress starts to follow the mental process of adjustment.
Members master the skills required to adjust with the organizations norms and values. This stage of going through number of changes is called metamorphosis.
