Promotion refers to the upward movement of an employee from his current job position to another resulting in higher pay, responsibility, status, etc. within an organization.
According to Edwin.D.Flippo, “promotion involves a change from one job to another i.e. better in terms of status and responsibility”.
TYPES OF PROMOTIONS
Basically, promotions are categorized into three broad categories as follows,
01. HORIZONTAL PROMOTIONS
This type of promotion results in a change in current job position to another which is higher in pay and responsibility, however job classification remains same.
02. VERTICAL PROMOTIONS
This type of promotion results in the movement of employee current position to another which is higher in pay, status, responsibility and also improved job classification.
03. DRY PROMOTION
Dry promotion is the type of promotion which refers to an increase in responsibility and status of an employee without an increase in pay and other financial benefits.
